HopeSouth FCU has been providing hope for a financially secure future for it's members for over 50 years! HopeSouth is CDFI certified serving all of Abbeville County South Carolina.
History
Our credit union was organized to serve the employees of Flexible Tubing, a manufacturing plant in Abbeville, South Carolina. In December of 1971 NCUA approved the charter for Flexible Tubing Employees Federal Credit Union (FTEFCU). The credit union operated in office space located inside the manufacturing plant.
In 1985 with assets of less than $1 million, FTEFCU purchased a building away from the Flexible Tubing manufacturing plant in Abbeville and opened membership to Select Employee Groups (SEG's) prompting a name change to Greater Abbeville FCU (GAFCU). In 2008, in another huge step forward GAFCU launched a Community Charter, effectively opening up membership to people who work, worship, live and attend school in Abbeville County. In 2012 GAFCU was certified as a Community Development Financial Institution by the US Department of the Treasury.
In 2017 after passing the $20 million mark in assets the credit union celebrated it's 45th Anniversary by unveiling a new name, HopeSouth Federal Credit Union. In 2021 HopeSouth purchased a drive-thru branch in Abbeville and exceeded $30 million in assets. HopeSouth continues to provide Hope for the future for it's membership!
