Audubon Federal Credit Union began in July of 1956, started by 10 each of Owensboro's Police and Fire Fighters our journey has taken us through several locations, 2 builds, 2 charter changes and one name change. We have grown from offering savings and loans to becoming a full-service financial institution. We can't wait to see where the journey takes us next.
History
History of Audubon Federal Credit Union
Audubon Federal Credit Union in Owensboro, Kentucky has been in business since 1956. The credit union was originally established as Owensboro City Employees Federal Credit Union by 10 each of Owensboro’s Firemen and Police officers and had its first location for doing business in the back of the old Fire Station on 7th Street.
From that location we moved to a one room rental down the street, next to a location on 1st Street, where Member’s gathered to watch the Regatta on the Ohio River in the 70s.
For some years, we were open only a few days a week for a few hours. Some of the police officers and fire fighter’s wives volunteered their time while children were in school to act as tellers. It is unclear when we hired our first tellers and opened standard times.
From there we built our first branch on Mosely Street where in
1988 The Members voted to change the name to Audubon Federal Credit Union, as we had begun serving other businesses and organizations in 1984 when our field of Membership changed.
We quickly outgrew our Mosely Street location and had our current branch built, moving into it in 1991.
In March 2006, our Board of Directors, always with our community in mind had our Membership charter changed and approved to serve ALL the citizens of Daviess County, Kentucky.
